Body Positivity. Liking the way we look, just as we are. I know what you're thinking: what the heck is that?
But think about it -- what if we thought and acted more positively towards our bodies, rather than nitpicking and finding the flaws we want to fix. What if we celebrated, instead of critiqued.
And what if we did it together. There's a place for that: BeauCoo.com BeauCoo is an online community where women can share their style and celebrate their bodies at any size.
I, as a size 12 woman who is working on her fitness, am very familiar with being body UNpositive ( I was at a size 6, too). It's easy to fall into the trap of wishing for what we want, rather than appreciating what we possess. Although I was usually the first person to genuinely tell another woman how great she looked in her dress/new shoes/jeans/top/whatever. Sometimes we are meanest to ourselves, without realizing that we value and celebrate other women's varying body types and styles with real enthusiasm. The point is, whatever size I am, being mean to myself isn't helping the situation--and I should be nicer to myself for the body I have. We all should be a little nicer to ourselves. Whether we want to stay the way we look now, or we're trying to lose weight, we need to find the good in where we are. Body Positivity.
And BeauCoo let's us do that -- celebrate ourselves and other women. While using the mobile app women can upload pictures of themselves in outfits, or just pics of accessories, sharing brand names so other users can find the look. You add your measurements to your profile (which are kept confidential) and can search for Fit Matches of women with similar body measurements to yours.
The fun part is while you are sharing your outfits, you get to see the style of other women, who are giving you the scoop of where they found their clothes and in which sizes--demystifying the illusion that it's hard to find great plus-size clothes. Or any size really -- that's the beauty of it. Members of the community come in all sizes, so you can search for Fit Matches, look for members in your area, or just search in general.
As a new member, I created a profile and started browsing the community by looking for pictures of "full body" as I am a sucker for a pretty dress. I also find myself having a hard time finding dresses that will fit my bust and hips nicely, while cinching in at my relatively smaller waist. To my luck, there were many women with similar body types as me, showing cute, complete outfits which gave me not only style ideas, but also pointed me to WHERE I could find the pieces. Searching for members with similar measurements as me also helped me see the beauty in a curvier body, lending credibility to the idea of body positivity.
So, lovely readers, if you want a community that will let you show off your style and get inspiration from women who are toting their clothing with pride, check out BeauCoo. I think it's a great way to celebrate together. Let's try being body positive together.
